Your web page designs – updated on Thursday 5th October

Filed under: activities — Rowland @ 1:14 pm

Hi everybody

I have been taking a look at your designs for web pages and found some interesting ideas from a number of people in no particular order:

One thing that strikes me about these web designs are that they show that although there might be guidelines about “good web design” there is no correct way of designing. It depends upon such things as the subject matter of the site, the site user, the purpose of the site.

There seems to be a problem with the links to the web pages from the blog to the wiki. If you open the wiki first then the link to the web page seems to work.

Reminder for this week

Filed under: COMP3092 General — Rowland @ 2:13 pm

Hi everybody,

As I remember it we agreed to do a number of things by next week:

  • finish producing a web site, uploading it to a wiki and making a link to it from a commentary about how good a web design it is;
  • comment on other people’s blog post;
  • respond to my feedback post;

I will use your feedback on the session to look at over the next few weeks. I will also take a look at some of your posts about your web design and make some comments over the next week.

  • up to three things you think you need to do more work on;

Web site critique update ….

Filed under: COMP3092 General — Rowland @ 10:33 am

I have looked at and commented on some more excellent critiques of web sites:

I also note that there were a number of useful comments that people have made on other people’s critiques. This sort of debate is a good motivator and helps in our understanding of the ideas put forward about web design.

Looking at web site critiques

Filed under: COMP3092 General — Rowland @ 1:14 pm

I took a look at your blogs and was pleased to see a number of well thought out web design critiques. Additionally there were some comments made about other peoples critiques which added to the value of the original message. If you are like me then you find it encouraging when people take the trouble to comment on your posts.

So far I have looked at and commented on:

Keep up the good work. It would be nice to see a web site critique from everybody and a comment on another critique from each of you, by monday evening.

Adding a link from this blog to my file

Filed under: COMP3092 General — Rowland @ 2:42 pm

As an example of what to do in Activity 202 I have uploaded the simple example file to the module wiki and have made a link here so that it can be displayed in your browser.

This will be a useful way of displaying our work to others so that we can get feedback on it.

Links to your blogs

Filed under: COMP3092 General — Rowland @ 4:03 pm

I have updated the blogs page so that there are links to your blogs in the left hand navigation bar. You might like to try them out to make sure that they work.

You can also access the blog list by using the “Module blogs” link on the top right of this page.

Problems with format

Hi everybody

At the moment the style sheet on this blog seems not to be working properly. However you can still see the posts and use the blog normally.

best wishes

The purpose of this blog

Filed under: about this blog — Rowland @ 1:33 pm

I have set up this blog so that I can write my reflections about the way the module is going and get some feedback from you (the students on the module) about how think things are going.

At the moment I have created two categories, “feedback” and “reflection” to allow me to group posts in these two general areas.

As soon as I started to do this I realised I needed another category “about this blog” for this post and other similar ones that deal explicitly with this blog. I also needed to use the publish button to make sure that it appears on the web site.
